Kristine Sørensen

Kristine Sørensen is an internationally recognised expert in health literacy and global health promotion. She is Honorary Professor at the Institute of Health and Technology at Aalborg University in Denmark and founding director of the Global Health Literacy Academy.

With an academic background in medicine, public health and global health diplomacy, Sørensen has played a leading role in advancing health literacy as a key component of stronger and more resilient health systems worldwide. Her work focuses on improving people’s ability to access, understand and use health information, an essential factor in prevention, patient empowerment and the effectiveness of healthcare systems.

Kristine Sørensen served as the first President of the International Health Literacy Association and is Executive Chair of Health Literacy Europe. She is also a member of the World Health Organization Technical Advisory Group on Health Promotion in the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, she acts as focal point for Health Literacy Europe, a network dedicated to advancing health literacy across the continent. She contributes to several international advisory boards, including the Asian Health Literacy Association, Bridge4Health, Health Literacy for Children and Adolescence, Health Literacy at the Workplace and GeWinn. She also serves on the Board of Commissioners of Kindante in the Netherlands and is an active member of Rotary International.

As a member of the ICT&health Global Editorial Board, Kristine Sørensen contributes insights on health literacy, prevention and patient empowerment, helping to highlight the role of knowledge, communication and education in the transformation of healthcare systems.
