Dutch start-ups and scale-ups in the healthcare sector are being offered a new opportunity to enter the US market. Rotterdam Square, in collaboration with Cedars-Sinai Accelerator+ and Erasmus MC, is launching the NL USA Health Accelerator, an international programme designed to help innovative companies bring their technologies to the United States more quickly.
The accelerator is aimed at companies in the health, medtech, biotech and digital health sectors that have already moved beyond the concept phase and have a working prototype, a minimum viable product (MVP) or a validated proof-of-concept. The programme combines the clinical and scientific expertise of Erasmus MC with the experience of Cedars-Sinai Accelerator+ in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship and market access in the United States.
Building on existing collaboration
The new accelerator builds on a collaboration that ScaleNL and Cedars-Sinai have developed over the past four years. During that period, several Dutch start-ups and scale-ups were supported in exploring the US healthcare market and building a network in the United States.
Under the new arrangement, Erasmus MC will collaborate directly with Cedars-Sinai Accelerator+ to deliver an intensive six-week programme. Participating companies will receive support in areas including market validation, commercial strategy, regulatory matters and establishing contacts with potential partners and investors.
The programme culminates in an intensive week on the Cedars-Sinai campus in Los Angeles. There, participants will engage directly with doctors, researchers, innovation experts, healthcare administrators and specialists in the US healthcare market. According to the organisers, this combination of Dutch medical expertise and US market knowledge offers companies a unique opportunity to accelerate their international growth strategy.
Focus on promising healthcare innovations
The NL USA Health Accelerator focuses on innovative solutions that can contribute to better patient care and more efficient healthcare. The emphasis is on technology areas that are currently undergoing rapid development. Priority themes include precision medicine, cell and gene therapy, biotechnology, value-based diagnostics, medical imaging and image-guided surgery, medical technology, digital healthcare applications and clinical decision-making systems. Innovations that demonstrably contribute to better patient outcomes are also eligible.
The collaboration reflects the growing interest among US healthcare organisations in European medical innovations. Cedars-Sinai has previously emphasised this commitment with the establishment of Coronet Ventures NL, an investment initiative specifically focused on Dutch start-ups.
Applications now open
Applications for the first edition of the NL USA Health Accelerator are open from 15 June to 28 August. Dutch start-ups and scale-ups with international ambitions can apply during this period. According to the organisers, the programme is primarily intended for companies that are ready for the next phase of growth and wish to accelerate their position in the US market. By combining scientific expertise, clinical validation and direct access to one of the world’s largest healthcare markets, the partners hope to further increase the international impact of Dutch healthcare innovations.
With the launch of the NL USA Health Accelerator, the Dutch innovation landscape gains a new programme that bridges the gap between medical innovation, entrepreneurship and international market development.
